Cricut Machine Vinyl: Which Films Are Best?
Choosing vinyl for your Cricut machine is vital for compatibility and application. Not all vinyl films can run through specific printers, cutters, or combination devices. That's why we have a list of what to use for Cricut machine vinyl and which films are the best.
What Vinyls To Use WIth A Cricut Cutting Machine
You can technically use both adhesive and heat transfer vinyl on both types of machines. Some films, however, are more compatible with Cricut Vinyl. Others may cut and weed better during an application.
We use the criteria of what is easy to apply, design, cut, and weed. The company in question may set skill set levels for the types of vinyl rolls and notes, which are easier to use for designing merchandise.
Heat Transfer Vinyl
Heat transfer vinyl requires finesse when choosing compared to adhesive vinyl. The films often have different temperature and pressure requirements when using an iron or heat press. Some work better with laserjet or inkjet printers, and the paper thickness may be more significant.
We recommend using Siser Easyweed if creating heat transfer with a Cricut machine. The company has made the vinyl easy to use for cutting and weeding. Siser Easyweed Stretch is an excellent option for more flexibility when applying designs. It's thin and boasts a matte finish and soft texture.
Removable Adhesive Vinyl
Most removable adhesives are water-based and best suited for indoor applications. A matte finish works best for indoor displays because they are less likely to reflect glare onto customers.
We recommend using Oracal 631 with a Cricut machine. At our shop, Oracal 631 Matte comes in 12-inch increments and will last up to three years. Our team advises using the film mainly for indoor applications because it lacks the durability to withstand bad weather.
Permanent Adhesive Vinyl
Permanent adhesive will last longer outdoors and is often waterproof. You want one with a glossy surface that can reflect sunlight. In addition to taking advantage of the natural outdoor lighting to attract the customer's eye, you can also reduce heat absorbed by the
Oracal 651 vinyl is designed for long shelf life and can work with various craft machines, regardless of the required level or skill set. When using Oracal 651 Gloss, you get six years of use out of the vinyl and more than twenty color options while applying it to many different surfaces. It delivers immense value to the designer for the retail price.
